SCHOOL RULES
Voorwaarts uses a well structured disciplinary system to support learners to make responsible
decisions.
GENERAL
-
Do your
best at all times on academic, cultural and sport levels.
-
Please keep
your school grounds, classroom, your school bag and your books neat and
tidy.
-
Be neat on
your person and uniform and always work neatly in your books.Always be punctual for school or
extra-mural activities.
-
No cell
phones are allowed. No toys, electronic equipment (including cell phones) will be allowed at
school.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
The new uniform for girls will be implemented from 2017 and the old uniform
phased out in 2018.
CLOTHING
STORE HOURS : MONDAY–THURSDAY FROM 07:00- 08:00 AND 12:00 – 13:00.
GIRLS Grade 1-7
Summer (Term 1 and 4)
Uniform: Blue check skirt, blue socks, black shoes or barefoot. Voorwaarts tracksuit top and a navy blue pull
over with school badge will be allowed.
Winter (Term 2 and 3)
Uniform: Blue check school skirt, long black stockings and black shoes, navy blue school jersey with school
badge/ warm jacket (Dri-Mac) or navy trousers, white shirt, blue socks and black shoes, navy school jersey /
warm jacket (Dri-Mac) or Voorwaarts tracksuit with black school shoes and school tie.
Tracksuits, pull-overs,
long sleeve jerseys and beanies will be available at the school.
BOYS Grade 1-7
Summer(Term 1 and 4)
Uniform: Grey shorts and grey short-sleeved shirt, grey socks and black shoes or barefoot and Voorwaarts
tracksuit top and a navy blue pull over with school badge will be allowed.
Winter(Term 2 and 3)
Uniform: Grey trousers and grey long-sleeved shirt, grey socks and black shoes – navy jersey with school badge /
warm jacket (Dri-Mac). Voorwaarts tracksuit with black school shoes and beanies with school badge and school
tie.
SPORTSWEAR
Learners participating
in various sports must wear the prescribed sportswear. Only approved school tracksuits may be worn at sporting
events. Navy tracksuit pants with navy Dri-Mac may be worn as sportswear with tackies.
School uniforms and
sportswear are obtainable at Rellings. (School uniform, sportswear and school bags.)
HAIR
GIRLS
-
Short hair
should always be neatly cut and washed regularly.
-
Hair extending
below the collar must be fastened.
-
Long hair must
be fastened neatly with blue or red elastic bands or ribbons.
-
The fringe may
not hang over the eyes.
-
Red or blue
Alice bands may be worn.
-
Hairclips – red
or blue (school colours) are permissible.
-
No
styling
BOYS
Hair may not touch the collar, hang over the eyes or grow beyond the ears. Boys are not
allowed to plait their hair or to use gel. No styling
JEWELLERY
Only girls may wear
small sleepers(gold or silver) and studs in their ears. JEWELLERY SUCH AS BANGLES AND RINGS WILL NOT BE
ALLOWED.
Nails may
not extend beyond the tips of the fingers.
Transparent
nail varnish may be used only by girls.
BICYCLES
Bicycles must be
roadworthy.
Bicycles must be stored
in the bicycle shed. Bicycles may not be ridden in the school grounds, but must be
pushed.
FETCHING AND TRANSPORTING OF LEARNERS TO AND FROM
SCHOOL
Learners arriving and
departing from school by motor vehicle must make use of the open grounds opposite the school in Meyer
Street.
THE SCHOOL-GROUNDS
MAY NOT BE USED FOR THE ABOVE MENTIONED PURPOSES. Learners may not cross the street at any point
other than at the scholar patrol. VEHICLES MAY NOT OBSTRUCT THE ENTRANCES TO THE
SCHOOL.
SCHOOL BAGS
Blue school bags are
preferred.
School bags must have
firm sides and partitions to protect books.
NO FISHING BAGS OR ANY
OTHER TYPE OF BAG WILL BE ALLOWED.
LEAVING THE SCHOOL GROUNDS DURING SCHOOL HOURS
No learners will be
allowed to leave the school grounds without prior permission of the Principal. Learners will only be allowed to
leave on written/telephonic requests by parents or guardians.
Learners not feeling
well, must report at the office and the class teacher - parents will be contacted if deemed necessary. Learners
are not allowed to use own phone to contact parents.
ALL
SCHOOLWEAR, SCHOOL BAGS, STATIONARY ETC. MUST BE MARKED WITH THE NAME AND SURNAME OF THE
LEARNER.
CLOTHES CANNOT BE RETURNED TO THE OWNER IF NOT
MARKED.
COMMUNICATION
-
Learners will
receive a “Communication and Discipline” file at the start of each year. This file is for correspondence
(circulars, letters etc.) between school and parent.
-
At the start of
a new term, parents will receive the following important correspondence: Quarterly programme, Assessment
programme, Extra mural activities timetable and an Assessment Report. Learners will also receive an
Assessment timetable five days prior to the start of assessment.

Parent evenings
at the start of each new term where the progress of learners and general matters will be
discussed.

SMS System is
in place. Update cell phone numbers if it changes. Parents will receive SMS messages regarding urgent
matters.
